Some people listen to the Rocky theme song as they push their body to the limits. I’m more of a Miley Cyrus “The Climb” while walking up the steps of Montmartre in heeled booties kinda gal.
Can-can girls, the Sacré-Cœur, street artists and street food – Pigalle is the playground of Paris. Crêpes (sucré ou salé), far too many steps, Café des Deux Moulins (yes, the one from Amélie!) and artisanal jewelers make Montmartre their own.
When feeling full of energy it is quite invigorating to embark on the steep upwards climb to the top of the hill, rolling views of Paris awaiting you upon arrival.

Forget Croagh Patrick, I think this holy hill is just as much the feat. In particular, two obstacles face most : 1. the men that decide to attach a “bracelet” (glorified twine) to your wrist which you cannot take off and will then be forced to pay for, and 2. as you reach nearer to the top and are most likely running low on oxygen, the “deaf” women who ask you to sign their petition also prove to be quite the scam artists and will do their best to pry a few coins from you.

The deaf women usually recover their hearing in the process of it all though, which is nothing short of a miracle to witness. It really must be a holy hill!

But these are the moments that I’m gonna remember the most, yeah. Just gotta keep goin’, I gotta be strong, just keep pushing on.
